Our ambition is to support our employees in their growth and development, promoting their health, safety and well-being and their overall ability to contribute to ST's business success.

ST strives to be an employer of choice, fostering a workplace culture that encourages people to reach their potential by providing training and development opportunities, creating a stimulating working environment and rewarding success.

ST values and respects the diverse cultures and lifestyles of its employees and firmly believes that a multicultural workforce that understands the unique local requirements of our customers contributes to a more innovative and competitive global business.

We were one of the first companies to sign the UN Global Compact in 2000. We support and promote the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights and all other major international human rights standards, including the core conventions of the International Labor Organization. These standards are reflected in our corporate values and policies, particularly our Code of Conduct, as well as in the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) Code of Conduct that we adopted in 2005.

As a multinational company, operating in over 36 countries, ST sets company-wide policies and programs based on international best practice. These are adapted at a national level to take into account country specific legislation and cultural norms.

Human Resources Policy

Our Human Resources Policy describes our approach to managing the basic rights, health, safety, well-being and development of everyone that works for ST:

  • Human rights
    • Freedom of association;
    • Avoidance of forced labor and child labor;
    • Working hours and fair wages and benefits;
    • Fair treatment, non-discrimination and respect for the individual.
  • Health, safety, well-being and security
  • Supply chain management- covering the human rights of suppliers and subcontractors
  • Privacy of personal information
  • Employee empowerment and development
  • Employment of relatives

The Chief Executive Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, the heads of Corporate Human Resources and Corporate Internal Audit have specific responsibility for ensuring compliance with the Human Resources Policy.

Reporting channels are also available for employees to report any cases of potential non-compliance with this Human Resources Policy. For more information see the sustainability governance page.

Health and Safety Policy
Our Health and Safety Policy sets out how we manage our health and safety performance using OHSAS 18001, which is widely seen as the most rigorous international standard for managing and improving occupational health and safety performance.

20 of our sites, including all our manufacturing sites are OHSAS 18001 certified.

These policies are robustly implemented through regularly revised procedures, frequent site audits and continuous improvement action plans, as well as through comprehensive employee training.

People related objectives

Mid- and long-term people objectives are defined at corporate level. These are then translated into Corporate Annual Targets using the nine criteria of EFQM’s (European Foundation for Quality Management) Business Excellence model. This allows for consistent, yet team specific, people objectives to be set across the business.

Health and Safety objectives are described in a set of ten measurable, time-defined goals known as our Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Decalogue.
