Robotics is the engineering branch that combines electronics, control systems, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, computer science and bio-engineering to develop mobile robotics systems. A robot is a device which includes sensors, actuators and a control system. There are two main types of robots:

- service or mobile robots which adds to its primary tasks also movement within its working environment;

- factory or industrial robots able to perform tasks such as cutting, welding, gluing.
