Based on ST's technological know-how and experience, our connectivity ICs include analog-line card and Ethernet solutions, and SLIC devices optimized for wireless local loop (WLL), ISDN-terminal adaptors (ISDN-TA) and VoIP applications.

For powerline communication, ST offers a complete family of transceivers. The latest devices are based on STarGRID™, a flexible and scalable powerline communication platform that can be easily adapted to different protocol standards. Its high integration level, which also includes analog and power front end, makes STarGRID a future-proof platform that can most effectively implement a PLC node in all smart grid domains. 

ST realizes that evolution from smart metering to a smart grid is a key milestone, and so we takes part in all the most important groups working on the definition of a common communication protocol for smart grid services: OPEN meter project (the official initiative of the European Commission aimed to create a set of open standards for smart metering applications), Meters and More Association and PRIME Alliance (created by large European utilities such as Enel/Endesa and Iberdrola to promote and maintain field proven and widely deployed PLC technologies), IEEE P1901.2 (the new emerging working group inside IEEE dedicated to narrowband PLC) and HomePlug Alliance, the leading group in broadband powerline communication.
