|We adopt a rigorous approach to managing business operations in an environmentally responsible way, committing twenty years ago to our EHS Decalogue objectives that have helped us reduce the environmental impact of our products and operations.|
ST Environment Policy
Our Environmental Policy and 30 Environmental Procedures describe how our manufacturing operations can achieve in practice high-level environmental commitments on pollution prevention, reduced consumption of natural resources, reduction of waste, and minimized impact (social and environmental) of chemical substances, as set out in our ‘Code of Conduct’, our Principles for Sustainable Excellence. The Policy goes beyond basic compliance with international and local regulations, incorporating best practice principles from the International Chamber of Commerce Business Charter for Sustainable Development, as well as the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) and the ISO 14001 international standard. In fact, all of ST’s 12 manufacturing sites are fully compliant with this Policy and are EMAS and ISO 14001 certified.
Our Policy has been in place since 1993 and is testament to our long-standing commitment to minimizing our environmental impacts and continuously improving our environmental performance – for more information, see our latest Sustainability report.
ST Environment, Health and Safety Decalogue
We were one of the first companies in the 1990s to publicly commit to reducing the impact of our business operations on the environment. Ten medium to long-term targets designed to improve ST’s health, safety, eco-design and environmental performance are encapsulated in our Environment Health and Safety Decalogue, a document that is widely distributed to our employees, suppliers, customers and partners. The Decalogue, overseen by the CEO, has been revised three times since it was first published in 1995 to reflect our desire to continuously improve our EHS performance and ensure our business grows in a sustainable manner.
EHS performance is evaluated against the Decalogue’s targets at all levels across the business on a quarterly basis, during individual site environmental committees chaired by site managers through to Corporate Staff meetings overseen by the CEO. The results are reported at company level on an annual basis in our Sustainability report.
