ECMF series (IPAD)

ST’s ECMF™ series offers the industry’s first silicon common-mode filters combined with high-efficiency ESD protection. Now available in micro-QFN and CSP packages, this series offers ultra-compact form factors and covers high-speed serial interface standards including USB, MIPI, HDMI, DisplayPort™.

The ECMF devices are designed to avoid RF antenna desense in applications such as mobile phones, notebooks or tablets, and to protect ICs against destructive electrostatic discharges (ESD).   They are particularly well suited for IoT applications, frequently subjected to RF link loss, due to the high-speed differential links – USB or MIPI – combined with Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity.

The most integrated ECMF™ for USB 2.0 high-speed lines

The ECMF02-3F3 – intended for USB 2.0 high-speed lines – combines 3 ESD protection diodes with a common-mode filter within a tiny 1.1 mm², 0.5-mm thick, chip-scale package with 0.4-mm pitch bumps. It saves 52% PCB area compared to an equivalent discrete solution, and targets all low profile applications. Its ESD protection, up to 8 kV contact, IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4 compliant, makes it ideal for USB 2.0 connectors in electronic gadgets requiring robust ESD protection but high signal integrity. In addition, its DC resistance of less than 4.5 Ω makes it compliant with USB 2.0 HS TDR requirements.
