STMicroelectronics and Tsinghua University Establish Joint Laboratory for Innovation in Electronics
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, and Tsinghua University (THU), renowned for talent cultivation and scientific research, officially announced the establishment of Tsinghua-STM32 Embedded Association. The association aims to provide a coordinated platform for the study, research, exchange, and practical development of technologies and training of undergraduates interested in embedded systems covering areas such as the Internet of Things, aircraft, and smart devices.
In this collaboration, ST will provide Tsinghua University with IC products and related hardware, as well as support on both technical and financial levels to facilitate student education in the design and development of innovative electronics projects in embedded systems. Tsinghua will make available its general-purpose facilities, premises, and the management of the Association.
At the unveiling ceremony, James Wiart, STMicroelectronics Director of Microcontroller Marketing and Application, Greater China and South Asia Region said, “We are privileged to build a strong cooperation with Tsinghua University, China’s top University of Technology with strong research capabilities and talented students. Members of the Association demonstrated their projects, which included a Tri-rotor and Quad-rotor, at the inauguration event. The projects utilized key technologies such as multi-sensor data fusion, flight control, and real-time operating systems. One project demonstrated preliminary autonomous hover, on the Quad-rotor, with the ultimate goal of establishing a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) system to monitor and track targets beyond visual range.ST is a recognized market leader in microcontroller (MCU) and embedded-system innovation and offers one of the industry’s widest portfolios of MCUs from ultra-low power to highest performance solutions.
