ST is committed to bringing more education and more opportunities for growth to all of its employees throughout their careers, and in 1994 ST established its own University. For the Company, STU is a strategic initiative and the curriculum is closely aligned to the dynamics of the business. All training reflects a genuine need and employees are educated in new skills and areas of expertise that reinforce the Company's strategic goals.

In 2000, STU's 70-course curriculum was expanded to include 13 new offerings, as well as a School of Sales and Marketing for the training of ST's sales force.

During the year, more than 5,000 students were enrolled at the four ST University campuses in France, Italy, Singapore and the United States, for a total of 135,000 hours of training.

The STU Masters Degree in Microelectronics Technology and Manufacturing Management was an on-going success, with a multinational graduation class of 25. More than 100 applications for the 2001 program were received.

ST University plays an important role in bringing newcomers into the Company's corporate culture. These include new hires as well as employees from companies that ST has acquired.
