FOCUS ON COMPUTER PERIPHERALS

ST's participation in the computer segment is strongly focused on devices for computer peripherals, which are expected to enjoy average compounded growth of 10% over the next five years. In 2001, ST bolstered its established leadership positions in the traditional peripheral product categories of data storage, printers and displays. We also showed great strength in applications increasingly viewed as mainstream peripherals Ñweb cameras, optical mice and DVD drives. In the key field of printers, ST won further design-ins for both inkjet and laser printer engines and also ramped up production of 0.18 micron printer engines. A new generation of display engine ICs was also introduced, aimed at the rapidly growing markets based on flat panel displays.
