  STANDARD PRODUCTS

Our primary focus on differentiated products is complemented by a strong market posi-tion in selected standard products, including memories, discrete devices and linear ICs. Standard products accounted for 34 percent of our total sales in 2001, a strategic level that allows us to optimize our overall cash flow, manufacturing capabilities and innovation.
We continued to ascend in the Flash Memory market, introducing 32Mbit parallel Flash Memory with the world's fastest speed in its voltage and temperature range. In the embedded Flash arena, we introduced new SoC devices that provide memory, peripheral and custom logic support for microcontrollers and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs). In the field of discrete devices, ST introduced a new family of high-voltage N-channel power MOSFETs that add an exceptionally short body-diode recovery time to the advantages already achieved by the company's existing MDmesh MOSFET technology. The CompanyÕs IPADs (Integrated Passive and Active Devices) continued to bring to cellular phone and computer applications the innovation needed to increase system miniaturization.
