Uhari was born in Tampere, Finland in 1971. He graduated
from the University of Oulu with a Master's degree in Industrial
Engineering and Management.
Between 1993 and 2006, Uhari worked at Nokia in various R&D
and management positions. He started as a design engineer, working
on digital ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits} for
mobile phones,and, as he successfully led and completed important
design projects, earned positions of increasing responsibility.
In 1994, Uhari became Nokia’s Program Manager for Digital
ASIC Development. In 1997 he expanded his responsibility to include
directing the development of a TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access)
cellular phone for the US market. In 1999, Uhari accepted the
challenge to work on Nokia’s software platforms and was
promoted to Vice President, Head of Software Platforms in the
year 2000. At the beginning of 2004, he was appointed Vice President,
Head of Wireless Platforms. In this capacity, Uhari was responsible
for delivering wireless platform solutions for Nokia's end devices.
In 2006, Uhari joined STMicroelectronics and was chosen to lead
ST’s newly created Mobile, Multimedia & Communications
Group. He was also appointed Executive Vice President, joining
ST’s Corporate Executive Committee, comprised of ten senior
corporate executives in addition to the COO and the CEO.
In mid-2007, Uhari’s organization was instrumental in winning
ST’s first 3G chipset design at Nokia and securing the agreement
to license Nokia’s 3G modem technologies and transfer its
IC operations to STMicroelectronics.
