Mobile robots are following a similar trend as to what happened to computer
systems as they transitioned from mainframe computers via workstations to PCs.
Today, it is possible to build small mobile robots with numerous actuators and
sensors by combining the knowledge of computer engineering, information technology,
cybernetics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and mechatronics*.
Mobile robots are able to move in structured and unstructured environments, and are classified as land robots, aerial robots or underwater robots.
