Semiconductors made by SGS-THOMSON are found in consumer products the world over and the Company enjoys relationships with leading customers in every region: General Instrument, Kenwood, Matsushita, Nokia, Pace, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Thomson Multimedia, among others. In the past year sales to the consumer market segment represented 19% of the Company's net revenues.
Many of the recent innovations in the consumer segment should greatly increase the need for ST technologies. Overall, industry analysts expect that the market for semiconductors in the consumer segment will grow #at an average of 16% from 1998 to 2001.
SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics provides complete product solutions for key and growing applications in the digital Consumer market. As with all fast growing applications, where high volume production and low cost are key, the consumer segment is migrating to superintegration solutions, more and more driven by software. A look at the Company's product offerings for set-top boxes and DVD players is a clear indication of ST's important role in these growing areas.
