Abstract
Multiple Description (MD) coding is a recently proposed solution for transmission of multimedia information over error prone data networks. In this paper, we consider the use of oversampled filterbanks to generate Multiple Descriptions for video coding. We consider the problem of filterbank design, error amplification, and efficient reconstruction in the presence of losses. A set of experiments confirm that multiple description techniques, and, in particular, frame-based multiple descriptions, can be a suitable choice in many applicative scenarios.
