DELPHI AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEMS AND STMICROELECTRONICS ANNOUNCE THE DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE MULTIMEDIA LINK |

|
Delphi Automotive Systems has developed the entire MML system architecture including software protocols, the physical implementation of the MML IC and optical physical layer. Based on the success of prototype systems utilizing first silicon, both companies believe the MML system will be ready for production in the 2002CY timeframe. The MML bus system, which utilizes plastic optical fiber technology in a star architecture, is capable of speeds in excess of 100Mbit/sec. At these speeds, it will allow full MPEG2 stream transmission for high quality video with any display size. ST is a recognized leader on MPEG2 technology. In addition, its star design topology using Delphis patented optical star technology, makes it fault tolerant and plug and play ready. These key characteristics make it the most advanced bus architecture for automotive applications in the world. The MML bus architecture is currently open to the market, with a full set of third party development tools provided by C&C Electronics. Delphi Automotive Systems is helping to bring enhanced communications, information and entertainment into vehicles through its experience in designing and producing advanced electronics, optical systems, including optical connection systems with integrated optoelectronic devices and passive optical stars. Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA is the worlds most diversified supplier of automotive components and systems. Delphi operates 171 wholly owned manufacturing facilities, 46 joint ventures and 27 technical centers in 36 countries. Regional headquarters are located in Paris, Tokyo and Sao Paulo. STMicroelectronics (formerly SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics) is a global independent semiconductor company, whose shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange, on the Bourse de Paris and on the Milan Stock Exchange. The Company designs, develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of semiconductor integrated circuits (ICs) and discrete devices used in a wide variety of microelectronic applications, including telecommunications systems, computer systems, consumer products, automotive products and industrial automation and control systems. In 1997, the Company received numerous awards, including the European Quality Award, and has been recognized as one of the world's best companies by Industry Week and Upside magazine. C&C founded in 1990 as a joint venture between Philips and Matsushita, Communication and Control Electronics Limited is an independent leading systems house dedicated to the design and development of in-car entertainment and information networks (known as D2B Optical). The company provides a total solution that encompasses system specifications, hardware and software, test, development tools and consultancy.
