STMicroelectronics introduces low-cost general-purpose 8-bit embedded flash microcontroller |
||
Geneva, March 6, 2002 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) today announced immediate availability of its new ST7Lite0 series of low-cost highly integrated flash 8-bit microcontrollers.The ST7Lite0 series is an extension of the company's ST7 family of standard microcontrollers and provides low-cost and fully integrated solutions complying with automotive quality requirements. Starting at only $0.99 in quantities of 10,000 units, the new series features 1.5Kbyte of flash, an on-chip 1% RC oscillator, fully integrated trimmable reset circuitry with low voltage detector and a power on / off reset, on-chip EEPROM guaranteed up to 300K write/erase cycles and zoomable A/D converter in a 16-pin package that operates continuously from 2.4 to 5.5V. "With this integrated solution, our customers will be able to design applications based on a single low-cost standard flash micro device. In addition to the obvious cost advantages, it will provide them with outstanding flexibility at all stage of the product cycle, from first prototype to production logistics, ensuring reduced cost and time to market," commented Y.U. Lee, General Manager of ST's Microcontroller Division. The ST7Lite0 is available with a range of development tools, from the $149 in-circuit debugger including a C compiler and an integrated development environment (IDE) to the high-end emulator system. The in-circuit debugger, available from both STMicroelectronics and SOFTEC, provides all the utilities required to write, compile, perform real-time emulation and debug applications. High-end emulation brings in addition trace and versatile breakpoint capabilities. "This microcontroller offering to the mass market is a result of the know-how that ST has developed by designing and manufacturing innovative 8-bit microcontroller solutions in partnership with its customers in the automotive, computer and industrial areas," added Y.U. Lee. "Today, ST7Lite0 provides the best integration/cost trade-off in the sub-dollar flash micro arena with a quality standard that makes it eligible for use in automotive applications." The ST7Lite0 series is the first available series of the ST7Lite family of low-end standard microcontrollers. New additions will be introduced including devices from 1Kbytes/16-pin to 8Kbytes/28-pin. With this extension, the ST7 family will include products from 1K to 60Kbytes and from 16-pin to 80-pin.
