STMicroelectronics Launches New Series of Mid-range General-purpose 8-bit Microcontrollers |
||
Geneva, November 27, 2002 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) today announced an extension to its ST7 family of 8-bit micros with the launch of the ST72324 general-purpose microcontroller, available in several Flash and ROM versions. This expands the ST7 range further with medium and large memory capacities and high pin count packages.The ST7232x series is aimed at the appliance, industrial and automotive markets. The first Flash and ROM parts of the family have already been put through the toughest qualification processes by automotive suppliers in North America and Europe, thus demonstrating the intrinsic quality of ST's design and processes. In addition to Flash program memory, which includes In-Application Programming capability, the entire series includes state-of-the-art features such as a 10-bit ADC and fully embedded secured reset circuitry with a user configurable Low Voltage Detector. Additional advantages of this series include the availability of a range of pin-to-pin compatible devices from 8-Kbyte to 60-Kbyte of ROM or Flash program memory, with standard serial interfaces such as SCI (UART), I2C and SPI, as well as 16-bit timers with PWM capabilities. The new devices are available in 32-, 44-, 64-, and 80-pin TQFP packages as well as SDIP32 and SDIP42. This new series employs ST's proprietary high-density Flash technology, which provides fast programming time, thus reducing production costs and test capacity constraints. Cost-sensitive high-volume applications will take advantage of the available cost-optimized ROM versions that are fully compatible with their corresponding Flash-based members of the series. A complete set of state-of-the-art development tools allows user friendly and efficient firmware development, and several levels of cost and capability. Available now, the $349 Indart-ST7F/521 offered by Softec Microsystem is an in-circuit debugger/programmer kit providing a complete development environment including assembler, linker, Debugger and programmer in an Integrated Development Environment (IDE). High-end emulators are also available now from ST and many third party providers. A $750 development kit with real-time debugging, real-time trace, and real-time breakpoint is also available. Already available in volume, the first members of the series are designated as ST72324Jx and ST72324Kx and offer up to 32-Kbyte of Flash program memory and are available in TQFP32 (7 x 7mm) and TQFP44 (10 x 10mm) packages. The ST7 family of microcontrollers will continue to expand in the near future with memory and package sizes of up to 60-Kbyte and up to 80 pins, respectively, again in ROM and Flash versions.
