STMicroelectronics Appoints New Corporate Vice-President, Japan Region |

April 1, 2004 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM) has announced the appointment
of Tetsuo Onikura as Corporate Vice-President, Japan Region and President
of STMicroelectronics K.K.. Mr.
Onikura replaces Keizo Shibata who has held the position since 1992.Under the management of Keizo Shibata, ST's Japan Region has sustained strong and steady growth, exceeding the Company's overall Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) between 1992 and 2003 by achieving an impressive 17.7% growth from US$52M to US$337M. Mr. Shibata also established ST's first strategic alliance with a Japanese customer, Pioneer, thus contributing to the Company's worldwide success and winning model. He now assumes the role as Chairman of STMicroelectronics K.K. after an active and successful career of thirty seven years in the industry. Tetsuo Onikura, 56, is a natural successor to the role with more than thirty years experience in the electronics industry. During this time he has built up a wealth of knowledge that has led to his status today as a highly respected industry figure, and a leading authority on the Japanese market. Having graduated as an electronics engineer specialized in semiconductor physics, Mr. Onikura spent most of his professional life at NEC Corporation in Japan, initially as a design engineer. He later moved into sales and marketing, and began a progression through various managerial roles that culminated in a promotion to General Manager of the Marketing Division within the Company's Semiconductor Group. In November 2002, he joined STMicroelectronics as Vice President of Sales. During his first year at ST he has already clearly demonstrated his sales and marketing excellence, contributing to increasing billings for the Japan Region by 23% in 2003 compared to the previous year. Throughout his career, Tetsuo Onikura has maintained close links with industry associations and was Chairman of the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Corporation-Japan (WSTS-Japan) from 1986 to 1988, and Vice Chairman from 1988 to 1989. He has also cumulated a wide range of experience through involvement in other endeavors, such as Committee Chairman for the Ministry of International Trade and Industry's Analysis Team for Reducing Trade Friction Related to Joint Japanese and American Work. In addition, he served as a part time lecturer at the Graduate School of Economics in Osaka City University. Tetsuo Onikura will report directly to STMicroelectronics' President and CEO, Pasquale Pistorio who, commenting on the appointment, said, "In the relatively short time that Tetsuo has been with us at ST, he has already shown that he is a powerful addition to our organization in Japan.
