STMicroelectronics Receives Corporate Governance Award | ||

Paris, October 7, 2004 - STMicroelectronics (NYSE : STM) received the 'European Company Award' on October 5 from Roland Berger Strategy Consultants consulting firm, the internationally acclaimed HEC School of Management and France's monthly business publication Enjeux-Les Echos in recognition of its achievements in corporate governance. Presenting the award to Alain Dutheil, Corporate Vice President Strategic Planning and Human Resources, STMicroelectronics, at a ceremony held in Paris in the presence of France's Industry Minister Patrick Devedjian, Mr. Jean Peyrelevade, former chairman of Crédit Lyonnais, and member of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, stressed the outstanding cultural diversity which exists within ST and its management team. "We at STMicroelectronics have always held governance, together with all issues related to the social role of the corporation, very high in our value rankings and it was an honor and a great pleasure to see that our efforts are publicly recognized," said Mr. Dutheil. The 'European Company Awards' are annual awards which acknowledge native French or European companies that are the most 'European' in terms of sales, manufacturing infrastructure, research and development, and management, for example. ST was acknowledged along with seven other European companies from a total of more than 350, all of which are worldwide leaders in their field. Among them are Air France-KLM ('Best European Merger'), Air Liquide ('Manufacturing Infrastructure'), Arcelor ('B-to-B Sales'), Atos Origin ('First Prize', turnover under €3bn), Danone ('Consumer Sales'), EADS ('R&D') and Eurofins ('First Prize', turnover above €3bn). The jury was presided over by Mr. Louis Schweitzer, Chairman of Renault.
