ST has introduced a new RS-232 interface device: the ST232. The ST232 is a 2 driver, 2 receiver device following the EIA/TIA-232 and V.28 communication standards. Designed for those applications where ±12V is not available, the ST232 uses a single +5V power supply and a dual charge pump that requires only four small external 0.1µF capacitors. The ST232, which presents a controlled output slew rate, is guaranteed to run at data rates of 120kbps while maintaining RS-232 output levels.
