STMicroelectronics offers a wide range of voltage regulators intended for automotive applications.
The L49XX family in BCD4 technology features a set of LDO voltage regulators with 5 V and up to 500 mA load-current capability. A PMOS-transistor pass element guarantees a very low dropout voltage of 400/500 mV and low quiescent current (in the range of a few tens of mA with the voltage regulator disabled). The chip embeds additional features such as reset, watchdog and enable pins (the latter only of watchdog function in L4993) combined with short-circuit and thermal protection. These make the L49XX family particularly suited for power supplies in body modules, for junction boxes, cluster instrumentation, roof and door zone, and keyless entry
.
An 220 nF output capacitor is advised for stability, whilst 10 mF is also suggested for damping high current transients.
