Features and Description
Reduced power losses and higher efficiency
Reduced size
Responsiveness during a.c. ON/ OFF cycles
Absence of hot spots during nominal operation.
The charge of the bulk capacitor
during start-up of an off-line AC/DC power supplygenerates
a surge current also known as an inrush current. If nothing is
done
to limit the level of this inrush current, the protection
wire fuse of the power supply might blow up and the circuit
breaker of the main power distribution might be forced to open.
Targeting the 100 to 150W power supplies, the STILis
a circuit combining two unidirectional switches for use in a
smart configuration of a primary rectification bridge, mixing
diode
rectification and SCR.
We call this circuit a Half Controlled Rectifier Bridge (HCRB).
The STIL
is the monolithic integration of two unidirectional switches
developed in the robust ASD technology,
a proprietary technology of ST. The STILxx should be used
in a smart configuration of an AC rectification bridges,
mixing rectification diodes and SCRs, thus achieving a HCRB. It
makes the limitation of the inrush current with a higher efficiency
possible while offering a higher integration than traditional
inrush current limitation circuits. ASD technology is especially suitable for this kind of application
since it provides the solution to the traditional trade-off of
the SCR between dV/dt immunity and power losses.
Basic power supply front-end using STIL
with a rectification SCR bridge
Main applications:
High power density switching
power supply
Server and Telecom power
supplies
Game station power supplies
High end TV
displays
Portable equipment adaptators
Benefits:
Low consumption (IPt= 20mA)
High noise immunity: dV/dt> 1000V/µs @ Tj=125°C
Low reverse current losses
Integrated pilot driver of the power switches
Suitable where efficiency and space are critical
