Committed to reinforcing its leadership in the lighting market,
ST has created the BUL series of bipolar transistors designed
specifically for lighting applications. The newest addition
to our portfolio of bipolars is the innovative BULXXXED family.
Features
The typical 277V ac push-pull configuration shows
the reduction in components required when using
the BUL1403ED solution - a saving of up to ten components.
This series has been designed to be used in high frequency
industrial ballasts. It integrates a freewheeling diode
(from collector to emitter), an antisaturation and protection
network. The antisaturation network works like a baker clamp.
It makes the storage time shorter and reduces the storage
time dispersion without using additional external components.
Due to their special structure, the BULXXXED devices have
an intrinsic ruggedness which enables the transistor to
withstand a high collector current level during breakdown
conditions without using the transil protection usually
necessary in typical converters for lamp ballasts. All these
features constitute a part count reduction and a large space
saving on the board, making this technology very flexible
for cost effective lighting solutions.
