Application Specific Serial EEPROM

ST’s application-specific EEPROMs offer additional features compared to standard EEPROMs:

  • For applications requiring two distinct EEPROM memory areas in the same package, the M34202 memory sizes with 2 Kbits + 2 Kbits and the M34216 with 2 Kbits + 16 Kbits, which can be accessed independently through two separate I²C buses, offer 100 kHz I²C standard mode and the 400 kHz I²C fast mode. Each memory can operate with its own specific supply voltage ranking from 1.6 V to 5.5 V in read mode, and from 1.7 V to 5.5 V in write mode, over an ambient temperature range  from -40 to 85 °C. Additionally, other memory configurations are proposed on demand with 2 Kbits + 4 Kbits,  2 Kbits + 8 Kbits, and 16 Kbits + 16 Kbits.

  • In order to fulfill the serial presence detect (SPD) function used in high-speed memory modules conforming to the JEDEC specifications, the M34E02 (a 2-Kbit serial EEPROM) can store all configuration parameters of the DRAM module. The set temporary write protection, reset temporary write protection and set permanent write protection are special commands acting as protection for the first half of the memory.
  • For applications requiring fast write operation, the M35B32 (a 32-Kbit SPI serial EEPROM) can save and store up to 256 bytes of data in less than 1 ms (versus 5 ms for standard EEPROM). Faster completion of write operation reduces the time during which the system is halted. Additionally, a small capacitor is sufficient for the M35B32 to store data in case of an unexpected power loss.
