STMicroelectronics to Demonstrate its Leadership in Embedded Technologies at ESC 2010 in Boston

STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a leading supplier of microcontrollers and products for embedded applications, will illustrate several exciting microcontroller-based activities at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston, MA, September 21-22, 2010. ST’s broad range of activities at the show will highlight the Company’s comprehensive portfolio of energy-efficient 8-bit and high-performance 32-bit ARM-based microcontrollers, as well as the SPEAr® 300 and 600 series of ARM-based embedded microprocessors. A range of demonstrations will offer an up-close look at the suitability of the products to most any application.

Development engineers and visitors are invited to stop at ST’s booth #509, where the Company will give away 100s of its STM32Value Line and STM8L Discovery kits. The STM32Value Line Discovery kits allow developers to quickly discover the possibilities of the Company’s STM32 32-bit microcontroller line, to build and debug an application, and to program and use the device. The STM8L-Discovery kits are the best way for developers to explore the many capabilities of the ultra-low-power, ultra-low-leakage, EnergyLite™ 8-bit microcontrollers.

While at the booth, visitors will also be able to learn about the SPEAr families of embedded microprocessors The SPEAr family of 32-bit ARM®-based embedded microprocessors are ideal for cost-sensitive applications requiring high performance processing and sophisticated connectivity capabilities. ST’s exhibit will highlight several products and consumer devices enhanced by the single-core SPEAr 300 and dual-core SPEAr 600 series. Additional demonstrations will include the STM8L ultra-low-power microcontroller operating from a range of very low power energy sources and a range of applications based on the broad STM32 32-bit microcontroller family including the STM32W with integrated 802.15.4 radio. Engineers will also get a chance to try the simple-to-use evaluation kits and development tools for the STM8 and STM32 families of microcontrollers.

As part of the ESC conference, Stuart McLaren, ST Product Marketing Manager, will speak on estimating and measuring power in embedded systems in a panel discussion on Wednesday, Septermber 22. McLaren will also share his thoughts on how the emergence of ultra-low power solutions are enabling a broad range of emerging markets.

Available to both attendees, a seminar in the Automotive, Industrial and Robotics track will showcase the factors affecting the current consumption of a low-power MCU design. In addition, the session will provide practical examples of how to build an accurate overall power consumption estimate while taking advantage of the STM32L core, including its ultra-low-power modes, system architecture, and advanced digital and analog peripherals. Factors to be examined include operating frequency, supply voltage, processing efficiency uA/MIPS, wakeup time and wakeup energy, low power modes, hardware architecture, and analog peripherals. This 60-minute session will take place on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, from 2pm to 3pm in room 103 of the Hynes convention center in Boston.
