STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, announced several exciting microcontroller-based activities at the Embedded SystemsConference in San Jose, CA, May 2-5, 2011. Highlighted at the booth will be ST’s comprehensive portfolio of 8-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers and tools, as well as products from the SPEAr family of microprocessors. A range of demonstrations will provide engineers with hands-on experience and access to local technical expertise.

During ESC exhibit sessions, ST will give away 1500 of its STM32L-Discovery kits based on the ultra-low-power STM32L microcontroller for EnergyLite™ applications. These kits allow developers to quickly unleash the possibilities of the ultra-low-power STM32L Cortex™ M3-based microcontroller family. Each kit includes a 6-digit LCD display, one touch-sensing slider, two LEDs, one user button, current measurement and the embedded debugger ST‑LINK/V2. Numerous applications are available in order to learn, reuse and modify code for rapid proof-of-concept or demonstration.

On Tuesday, May 3, at 5:30pm in the ESC Theater, judges from ST, Digi-Key and EE Times will announce the highly anticipated Grand Prize Winner and three Honorable Mentions of the STM32 Design Challenge. From the 10 finalists, judges and peer votes will determine the winners. For more information and to vote, please visit
