Secure Microcontroller from STMicroelectronics Receives Prestigious ‘Electron d'Or 2013’ Award from ElectroniqueS MagazineWinning microcontroller is the first to combine advanced ARM® SecurCore™ SC000 secure processor, contact/contactless interfaces, and support for multiple transport-card standards
“The prestigious Electron d'Or 2013 award is an important recognition of ST's position in digital security, and particularly for our family of dual-interface secure microcontrollers that enable contact or contactless smartcards for Banking, e-ID, e-Passport, Driving License, Pay TV and Transport applications,” said Marie-France Florentin, Group Vice President and General Manager of the Secure Microcontroller Division, STMicroelectronics.
ST’s ST31 devices are the first chip-card microcontrollers that combine the latest ARM® SecurCore™ processor (SC000) offering outstanding balance between high computing power and energy efficiency, with support for optional MIFARE™ libraries and Calypso transport-card standards enhancing multi-application versatility.
The ST31 platform has been designed to comply with the most stringent security requirements and cryptography standards. Its extremely low-power architecture helps improve communication speed and reliability in contactless applications, in which the battery-less card circuitry is powered by absorbing RF energy from the reader.“Combining an advanced secure processor with contact and contactless interfaces, support for multiple transport-card standards, and packaging it to harvest energy from the card reader made the ST31 from STMicroelectronics a logical choice for the Electron d’Or 2013 in the microcontroller category,” said Pascal Coutance, Editor in chief of ElectroniqueS magazine.
