Watch Now

In this one-hour, on-demand webinar, we introduce a family of energy-efficient Intelligent Power Switches (IPS) dedicated to the industrial market, along with a rich supporting ecosystem that simplifies design and prototyping.

Following an introduction of IPS theory and common use-cases, we dive into the details of a portfolio that includes intelligent high-side and low-side switches capable of efficiently driving inductive, capacitive or resistive loads. In addition, diagnostics for CPU feedback and extensive use of electrical protection features make these devices inherently indestructible and thus suitable for industrial applications. We then discuss our new IPS devices for Safety Integrity Level (SIL)-compliant applications, and the technical advantages they provide.

The portfolio also includes galvanically-isolated octal high-side smart power switches. These smaller, more robust and energy-efficient controllers are the current trend for innovative industrial automation equipment. And with very low levels of quiescent current together with on-chip RF communication through the isolation layer, they ensure excellent levels of efficiency and immunity to electromagnetic noise and ESD in compliance with international standards.

Finally, you will be introduced to a complete toolset for developing with IPS, including hardware, software, and documentation, to demonstrate how fast and easy it can be to perform setup and digital diagnostics.

You will learn:

  • What an Intelligent Power Switch is and where it is used
  • ST’s portfolio of SIL-ready isolated and non-isolated Intelligent Power Switches
  • The ecosystem of evaluation boards, application notes, and software GUI that make development with IPS fast and easy
  • Common challenges using Intelligent Power Switches

About Intelligent Power Switches from STMicroelectronics

ST offers a series of intelligent power switches (IPS) for high-side and low-side configurations. These devices integrate the control section (logic interface, drivers, diagnostic and protection features) and the power stage on the same chip, with benefits in terms of compactness, increased system reliability, and cost effectiveness. ST‘s IPS can be used in combination with any industrial load—resistive, inductive or capacitive.
