In the Onlife era smart devices improve, support and assist user experience, even in the automotive sector with new and even more compelling driver-assist features and the latest services regarding vehicle status. ADAS systems and self-driving cars, with a very high number of sensors, are a shining example of this trend. Enhancing transportation capabilities means investing in 3 areas: sensing, intelligence and connectivity.

On-board processing is certainly the key enabling technology here, but how can we control safety-critical applications when the vehicle becomes self-driving?

It's not only about high-precision positioning, orientation freedom or design flexibility for autonomous systems applications. It's about bridging the gap between driver assist and a certain degree of autonomy, while meeting the highest reliability standards in the automotive industry. Thanks to the right combination of performance, redundancy and software, ST provides solutions for L2, L2+ driver assistance safety features and above, which brings greater benefits to the driver in all environments and offers a whole new level of safety and comfort. Moreover, the flexibility of this unique embedded intelligence technology further enables a smarter experience.

Our solution is suitable for Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) B, taking your driving experience a step further.

Use cases in ASIL B applications

Hands-free driving

L2 and L2+ semi-autonomous driving relies on reliable vehicle motion information to obtain accurate data from the camera image or to remain in the lane. Ideal for redundancy in safety-compliant applications, new IMU sensors with the ASIL-B library provide high accuracy and high temperature stability for a safer driving experience.

Stuck without a GPS?

To meet today’s demand for continuous and accurate vehicle positioning for automated services, our new 6-axis motion sensor uses advanced dead-reckoning algorithms to calculate the precise location when satellite signals are not available. Thus, no more issues in urban canyons, tunnels, covered roads, parking lots or dense forests. This 6-axis IMU provides precision location data to meet the requirements of advanced automated guidance systems.

Keep it stable!

Our latest automotive-grade motion sensor provides reliable position and motion recognition data for stabilization applications including radar, lidar and cameras thanks to its high accuracy and high stability over temperature. This provides vehicle systems with reliable data when ADAS or GPS performance is degraded or unavailable. Benefits range from fast update data rates to immunity to changes in the external environment.

Smarter, safer, greener

Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology enables data exchanges between a vehicle and its surroundings, increasing driver awareness and helps prevent accidents as well as improves traffic flow by alerting drivers about bottlenecks, suggested routes, and reducing CO2 emissions. Our new combo sensor is key player for navigation applications thanks to its high stability over temperature.

Amazingly comfortable

Active suspension systems makes driving safer and more comfortable. We provide sensors that accurately records the dynamics of the car body and chassis, even when conditions are rough.

What’s happening to your car?

The intelligence embedded in ST’s solution make it especially suitable for daily vehicle monitoring use cases. The machine learning algorithm helps detect events including driving, jack up, towing, crash etc. answering all the questions about your car status.

The ASM330LHB is a 3-axis digital accelerometer and 3-axis digital gyroscope module that is suited for automotive systems with safety standards up to ASIL B. It is used for redundancy (as two modules) for safety-compliant applications and comes with a dedicated free-of-charge software library.

ST’s ASM330LHB is the new benchmark in automotive sensors, playing a key role in autonomous driving applications requiring a L2 and L2+ semi-autonomous driving level as well as in positioning applications. In fact, this solution makes your driving experience safer and more comfortable by providing high accuracy and high temperature stability for precise positioning, vehicle-to-everything (V2X), active suspensions, radar, lidar and camera digital stabilization, and many other applications involved in both ADAS and in L2 and L2+ semi-autonomous driving.

With its embedded intelligence, it is possible to add new services related to the vehicle’s status when the driver is away. A machine learning algorithm can detect events such as driving, jack up, towing, crash, etc, leveraging the machine learning core (MLC) technology using just a few microamps.

The software library is developed according to ISO 26262 standards and is certified as ASIL B compliant by TÜV SÜD.
