Bringing RF connectivity to the STM32 portfolio, the STM32WB microcontroller integrates a 2.4 GHz radio supporting Bluetooth™ 5.0 and IEEE 802.15.4 wireless communication protocols.
Dual-core STM32WB microcontrollers feature an ultra-low-power 2.4 GHz radio to meet the requirements for a wide range of wireless applications.
Built on an Arm® Cortex®‐M4 and Cortex®‐M0+ core architecture, STM32WB microcontrollers support multiple radio protocol configurations to ensure wireless application flexibility with Bluetooth™ 5.0, OpenThread, ZigBee 3.0 individually or concurrently.
Bluetooth Low Energy RF transceiver comes with certified Bluetooth™ 5.0 radio stack, profiles from the Bluetooth SIG, Mesh profile-compliant V1.0 Bluetooth SIG release, and an HCI for any Bluetooth Low Energy or proprietary solutions including the Zephyr or Arm Cordio stack.
The IEEE 802.15.4 part also integrates different possibilities with certified OpenThread stack, a ZigBee 3.0 stack or even an 802.15.4 MAC layer for proprietary solutions.
The STM32WB microcontrollers embed security features which reduce device maintenance needs and ensure end-devices are trustable and cannot be cloned.
Thanks to the STM32Cube development ecosystem, designers benefit from a complete suite of tools which lowers application development time. The STM32Cube development ecosystem includes STM32CubeMonRF software tool to test RF performance of STM32-based devices, the STM32CubeWB MCU package which contains STM32Cube™ hardware abstraction layer (HAL), low-layer (LL) APIs, middleware components, radio stacks as well as the STM32CubeMX graphical software configuration tool to be used with STM32WB microcontrollers and the STM32WB55 Nucleo Pack supporting Bluetooth™ 5.0 and the IEEE 802.15.4 communication protocol (P-NUCLEO-WB55).

Purchase a STM32WB55 Nucleo pack
Download the Free STM32CubeWB embedded software package containing the HAL, LL (low-layer) APIs, middleware, Bluetooth™ 5 certified stack and Open-Thread certified stacks. Then install ST’s STM32CubeMX graphical software configuration tool (Free) that supports pinout configuration, code generation and a power consumption calculator. Start with one of the many examples provided or build your own project.
