Recognized worldwide for its leading-edge technology, ST's large portfolio of protection devices have passed all certifications, meeting or exceeding international protection standards for electrical hazards on electronics boards found in the demanding automotive, computer, consumer, industrial and telecom markets.
ST's automotive dataline ESD protection ICs are transient voltage suppressors or application-specific discrete devices that provide system level protection against surge pulses as defined in ISO 7637-2 and ESD surges according to IEC 61000-4-2 and ISO 10605.
ST's automotive dataline ESD protection ICs are manufactured using automotive-grade processes and qualified to AEC-Q101 for standard CANbus, LINbus, and FLEXray automotive interfaces. Moreover, ST offers innovative, flexible package solutions for enhanced layout options as well as the widest ESDCAN protection range of the market to provide compatibility with CAN, CAN-FD and Flex-ray buses.
The new ESDCAN04-2BLY and ESDCAN04-2BWY devices offer the best trade-off between the protection efficiency and the parasitic capacitance, while the ESDCAN06-2BWY allows customers to use CAN protection on 24 V truck system in SOT323-3L.
To help you find the best solution for your application, ST provides online ESD design tools such as TVS smart selector.
In this video, we explain why it is important to protect against electrostatic discharges. We give a quick demonstration to show exactly what happens when you shoot at a microcontroller with an ESD gun!

ESD protection for CAN, CAN-FD and LIN interfaces
After a first generation of CAN bus protections in SOT23-3L and SOT323-3L packages, ST widens its product range by launching the ESDCAN04-2BLY and the ESDCAN04-2BWY. These devices offer an optimal trade-off between the high protection efficiency of the ESDCAN01-2BLY and the low capacitance of the ESDCAN02-2BWY. The new ESDCAN06-2BWY allows users to implement CAN protections on 24 V truck systems in an SOT323-3L package.
The ESDCAN devices are rated 17 pF and 35 V maximum clamping in ISO 7637-2 3a and 3b test conditions.
With these additional devices, ST’s CAN protection range compatible with CAN, CAN-FD and Flex-ray buses is now the widest in the market.
