Motor Control hands-on workshop series
|
Due to the recent developments surrounding COVID-19, we have decided to postpone the upcoming ST hands-on training workshops. We do have plans to reschedule as many of the workshops as possible for later this year and will communicate new dates as venues are rescheduled. The health and safety of our patrons, sponsors and employees remains top priority. Thank you for your continued interest in the STMicroelectronics workshops, and we hope to see you soon at a future training session. |
Receive two complementary motor control development kits while learning the theory and control techniques for spinning DC Stepper and Brushless DC (BLDC) motors.
Join ST for a free one-day workshop, where our motor control experts will explain the principles behind stepper and BLDC motor rotation, explore their main control methodologies, and guide you through hands-on practical exercises using real motors and our free software. We will provide you with all the required materials, including motors and power supply, which are yours to keep after the workshop.
The training will be divided into 2 parts: DC stepper motors and BLDC motors.
The morning session will be dedicated to DC stepper motors, with an initial discussion on theory of operation followed by practical exercises spinning the motor. We will cover some of the most critical aspects of stepper motors, such as limitations, voltage mode control, current mode control, and speed/torque, all with the aid of a simple-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) and real-time support from our onsite technical experts.
The afternoon session will focus on BLDC motors, beginning with theory and then moving to a discussion on some of the more interesting BLDC control methodologies, such as Field Oriented Control (donkey and carrot example) and Sensorless vs. Sensored feedback control. We will then guide you through exercises to run your motor implementing both 6-step and FOC control methods.
Who should attend?
This workshop is intended for engineers and professionals involved in motor control design or implementation, or those wishing to expand their knowledge about motor control theory and practical application.

Prerequisites
You will need a laptop with a Type A USB port and administrator rights running Windows 7 or later, or a MacBook running Windows (Parallels, VM Fusion, etc.), with a minimum 2 GHz processor, 4 GBs of RAM and 10 GBs of free disk space. You will need to install the .NET Framework 2.0, if not already present in your system. For laptops with only USB Type C ports, please bring a Type A (Female) to Type C (Male) adapter. ST will provide the development kits. You must stay for the full training session to receive the free kits.
