Electrostatic discharges (ESD) are one of the major root causes of product quality returns in electronic applications. Learn how to protect your system against Electrostatic Discharges in industrial and automotive environments..

During this one-hour webinar, you will learn how to use ST’s ESD Protection components in order to make electronic systems more robust and avoid facing destructive ESD.

Electronic systems have several potential entry points which can lead to ESD (such as connectors, antennas, buttons, etc.) and therefore must be protected using a component which does not impact the system’s signal or power integrity.

ST’s ESD protections feature high efficiency and avoid integrated circuits’ destruction or weakening after an ESD. Thanks to its advanced patented silicon technology and design structure, ST has become a worldwide leader in ESD protection markets. ST's protection components are used in major Tier1 OEM  and mass market customers’ devices worldwide, reaching a yearly shipped volume of over 6 billion units.

Aware that issues linked to EMC immunity are most of the time very hard to tackle and often solved after a long learning curve, ST’s engineers will share their knowledge, coming from practical experience gained after looking into ESD protections in a wide range of applications (industrial, automotive and personal electronics) implemented by our customers worldwide.

During this webinar you will learn

  • About ESD major root causes and EMC standards.
  • How ST’s ESD protection devices can help protect applications against ESD.
  • Why it is important to integrate ESD protection components in your design, with real application examples
  • How to select the best protection for your use case.

Agenda

  • The importance of protecting electronic systems against ESD - why an external protection is required
  • The Key parameters to consider when selecting an ESD protection
  • Application examples

The webinar will be followed by a live Q&A session where ST’s experienced engineers will be available to answer your questions.

Speakers

Vladimír JANOUŠEK Vladimír JANOUŠEK is an Application Team Manager EMEA at STMicroelectronics. He started as application support engineer at ST in 2003. His career at ST led him to discover many different MCU and MPU applications with a focus on industrial and wireless connectivity (Ethernet PHYs, Ethernet in industrial buses, SubGHz, Bluetooth). Since 2008, Vladimir has focused on customer application support for new MEMS & Sensors products and on leading the application team specialized in standard analog products (Op Amps, comparators), power management applications (DC/DC, LDOs) and system protections against ESD.

Mohamed SAADNA is a Technical Marketing Engineer for Protection and Filters products at STMicroelectronics, in charge of Mass Market customers worldwide. He started as Test and Product Engineer for consumer SoC at STMicroelectronics in 2000 and pursued his career developing this expertize at Texas Instruments and then at NXP Semiconductors in France. He came back to STMicroelectronics in 2005 as Technical Marketing Engineer for Protection and Filter products for key telecom customers. Since then, he introduced several RF and protection products aimed at improving the EMC immunity of electronic systems for Telecom, Industrial and Automotive markets. Mohamed holds a Master’s degree in Microelectronics, Robotics and System Control from Polytech Montpellier, France.

Mathieu ROUVIERE, PhD,  is an Application Engineer for protection and filter products at STMicroelectronics. He has an engineering degree from ESEO in electronics and also a Master’s degree in photonics from Angers University. His thesis at Institute of Fundamental Electronics (University Paris-Sud) in 2005 led him to study silicon micro-photonics. He worked for 7 years on industrial R&D on RF technologies with technology transfers, developments and industrializations. He has been a member of the protection and filter application laboratory for consumer, industrial and medical markets worldwide for 8 years. He is the co-author of 9 international publications, 13 international conferences and 7 European/USA/China patents (3 under publication).
