During this one-hour webinar, we will talk about how our MDmesh K5 series of very-high-voltage power MOSFETs with blocking voltages from 650 to 1200V and a wide RDS(ON) range are ideal for car electrification.

In electric and hybrid vehicles the power electronics subsystems (OBCs, DC/DC converters, HVAC compressors, etc.) are connected to the source of energy – the battery – through the DC-Link capacitors. These function as energy reservoirs for fast current deployment, and among other uses as decoupling capacitors, stabilizing voltage, and filtering ripple.

In case of an accident or when the car is being serviced the DC-Link capacitors must be discharged for safety reasons from the battery voltage to below 60V in less than 5s, in compliance with international regulations. Usually relays and power resistors are employed for this task, but they are bulky, costly, and do not offer current control.

We will show real-life examples of how MDmesh K5 Power MOSFETs can work in Linear mode with high voltages and low currents to ensure fast, controlled, and reliable discharge operations.

Agenda

  • Evolution of ST's MDmesh technologies with an overview of our high-voltage STPOWER MOSFETs and how they benefit automotive applications
  • Review of current legislation, why active discharge is needed and the pros/cons of various solutions
  • Using Linear mode to protect your application

There will be a live Q&A session at the end of the webinar where ST’s experienced engineers will be available to answer your questions.
