The EtherNet/IP protocol stack/library provides CIP compliant communication, utilizing STM32 on-board Ethernet controller. It requires a properly embedded and Multicast enabled TCP/IP stack with BSD compatible socket interface, such as lwIP.
This can be realized as either a Single Protocol approach or as a Multi Protocol approach with GOAL support.
The GOAL approach by port – a comprehensive development system that allows for creating Multi Protocol support in one single design. The GOAL includes an option to manage an external Layer 2+ managed Ethernet Switch Controller for Dual Port operation (Line Structure, Daisy Chain).
GOAL: Creating connectivity for Industrial Ethernet does not only consist from setting up a piece of Source Code – it is rather a product philosophy from Top to Bottom. EtherNet/IP operates on top of the TCP/IP stack and only needs few platform specific adaptations. GOAL embeds all of this into the framework by STMicro, parallel to other supported protocols in the same project. The GOAL driver can as a "Side Effect" be enabled to manage a L2+ managed Ethernet Switch.
And all of this inside an embedded platform, this results in a :
- highly optimized, performance tweaked MCU system prepared for several communication stacks in one project (GOAL)
- implemented TCP/IP
- optional: a managed L2+ Ethernet Switch
The etherNet/IP solution offers a competitive bill of materials cost with an optimized power consumption for both the STM32 CPU and the peripherals.
Key Features:
- EtherNet/IP protocol library
