ST’s high-voltage AC-DC converters combine an advanced pulse width modulation (PWM) controller with a high-voltage power MOSFET in a single package.

This makes them ideally suited for offline switch mode power supplies (SMPS) with output power spanning from a few to a few tens of watts. The portfolio offers a wide choice of products so you can find the best fit for the most popular topologies, including quasi-resonant, flyback and buck configurations with either isolated or non-isolated implementations, backed up by an extremely large palette of protection features to make sure that even the most stringent reliability targets are met. External component count is also kept at a minimum to help you get the most out of your design at least cost.

The VIPer® high-voltage converter series is composed of monolithic ICs integrating a PWM controller and a 700 V HV vertical power MOSFET.

The VIPerPlus series features an 800 V avalanche-rugged power MOSFET and leading-edge PWM controller and consumes less than 30 mW (at 265 VAC) in standby. It also comes with the largest choice of protection schemes and supports different topologies.

The Altair series has a built-in 900 V avalanche-rugged power MOSFET and a PWM controller specifically designed for opto-less implementation, thus significantly reducing component count.

The VIPerGaN series of high voltage power converter is enriched by the introduction of GaN HEMT (high-electron-mobility transistor) technology. The use of a GaN transistor leads to higher power density, higher efficiency, higher switching frequency with consequent smaller and lighter PCB, simplifying the design of SMPS and improving the overall performances.

New VIPer0P with unique zero-power mode

Introducing the VIPer0P high-voltage converter with jittered fixed-frequency current-mode PWM control for simplified EMI compliance and zero-power mode (ZPM) with an astounding < 4 mW (at 230 VAC) consumption. VIPer0P can enter and exit ZPM when the low voltage input/output pins (OFF or ON) are pulled to ground so a small and inexpensive safety extreme low voltage (SELV) switch can replace the bulky mains switch. The VIPer0P embeds a set of protections – including over-current protection (OCP), VCC clamp, maximum duty cycle and flux runaway – to enable a more robust and safer SMPS design.

The VIPer0p is ideal for all SMPS up to 7 W having a wide input voltage range including:

  • Home appliances compliant with EuP Lot6 energy regulation
  • Industrial equipment or digital consumer goods
