Driven by increasingly stringent environmental regulations worldwide promoting the development and use of cleaner cars, car makers are all striving to expand their offer of electric vehicles – including hybrid (HEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) – in a fairly tight time scale.

The main challenges to providing an acceptable driving range and ensuring road performance aligned with or superior to ICE vehicles while offering a superior driving experience are developing battery technologies with high energy-to-weight ratios and semiconductor solutions that can help design highly efficient and lightweight power conversion systems.

ST has an extensive offer of discrete semiconductors including AEC-Q101 qualified IGBTs and both silicon and silicon-carbide (SiC) MOSFETs and diodes – and AEC-Q100 qualified galvanically isolated IGBT and MOSFET gate drivers to provide developers with scalable, cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions for implementing these demanding power conversion applications.
