A brushed motor is an internally-commutated electric motor designed to be run from a direct current power source. These easy-to-drive motors are used in applications ranging from a few watts to several horsepower. Universal motor drives typically can be run directly from the mains, while brushed DC drives are used in many low-voltage applications, especially those powered by batteries.
