ST BrightSense
A new complete portfolio of CMOS image sensors
Relying on proprietary innovations, the ST BrightSense portfolio leverages cutting-edge pixel technologies to offer a tiny form factor and ultra-low power consumption. Combining global shutter, 3D stacking, backside illumination (BSI), and capacitive deep trench isolation (CDTI) technologies, ST BrightSense camera sensors provide superior image quality for smart, accurate and reactive camera-based systems. Their rich set of on-chip features allows faster and more efficient processing to support the next generation of smart devices.
Promodules are evaluation camera modules embedding an image sensor, lens holder, lens, and connector in tiny footprints down to 5mm square. Several promodules with various lens specifications are offered for every ST BrightSense image sensor. Relying on the exact same connector and pinout, ST BrightSense promodules can be switched at any time to test different sensors or lenses with a convenient plug-and-play approach.
The P-Board is a development kit made for integrating any ST BrightSense image sensor as a promodule on embedded processing platforms. The kit includes a board featuring a MIPI CSI-2 output and a promodule input connector to plug in any ST BrightSense promodule, plus a ribbon cable. Easily connect to embedded processing platforms (e.g. STM32MP2 and Raspberry) by simply plugging the cable provided from the P-Board to the platform.
S-Boards are development kits for integrating ST BrightSense image sensors on embedded processing platforms with maximum lens flexibility. They include a board embedding an image sensor with a MIPI CSI-2 output, an M12 lens holder, a default non-glued lens, and a ribbon cable. The non-glued lens enables focusing it to your needs or replacing it with a different M12 or smaller lens. A dedicated S-Board exists for each ST BrightSense sensor.
The EVK Main is a versatile evaluation kit for evaluating any ST BrightSense image sensor or associated promodule on a computer. It includes an evaluation main board with a USB-C output and a mechanical holder. With its two input connectors, users are free to either plug in turnkey promodules or S-Boards for lens flexibility. Developers can place the EVK Main on a flat surface or insert it on a tripod or laptop for use as a webcam.
ST provides a full range of software for its ST BrightSense portfolio available for free download on its website. Evaluation software supporting all ST BrightSense image sensors is available for use with the EVK Main kit for in-depth performance evaluation on computers. Linux drivers are available for each sensor for effortless integration with embedded processing platforms in combination with S-Boards or P-Board.
