High efficiency PFC delivers superior performance for smart street lighting
Designing LED street lighting SMPS requires balancing three key objectives: low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), high efficiency, and a compact footprint, all while meeting stringent electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. In industrial power systems, low THD minimizes unwanted current harmonics, which helps reduce equipment heating, protect sensitive loads, and ensure reliable operation.
To address these challenges, ST introduces the L6462A, the industry’s first 6-pin transition-mode power factor corrector (PFC) with current-mode control. It provides high efficiency and low THD across a wide load range, helping SMPS designs meet EN61000-3-2 and other energy-efficiency regulations. Housed in a compact SOT23-6L package, it enables space-saving designs with a reduced number of external components.
