Introduction
In IoT (internet of things) applications, devices are vulnerable to unwanted intrusions through the Internet. Consequently, security is an important topic to protect device and information and to isolate the trusted and untrusted worlds from each other.
STM32L5, STM32U5, and STM32U3 series devices are based on the high-performance Arm® Cortex®-M33 32-bit RISC core. This processor uses the Armv8‑M architecture and is primarily for environments where security is an important consideration.
The Arm® TrustZone® technology for Armv8-M is a security extension that is designed to partition the hardware into secure and non‑secure worlds. With the Arm® TrustZone® technology and software method, the STM32L5/U5/U3 microcontrollers (MCUs) provide a secure application with good design flexibility.
This document introduces the Arm® TrustZone® technology and the features of STM32L5/U5/U3 devices that allow the partition of MCU memory/resources between secure and nonsecure.
