Local Interconnect Network (LIN)

LIN (Local Interconnect Network) is an automotive sub-bus system based on a serial communications protocol.
ST7 and ST9 microcontrollers support the LIN protocol. Two software drivers are available now for the ST7: an SCI-based and a Timer-based solution. ST7 and ST9 microcontrollers with dedicated hardware supporting LINSCI™ are currently in the validation phase.
To support the design of distributed systems with many intelligent nodes, LIN provides a standardized API (Applications Programming Interface) and software design flow. This is supported by third party development tools available from ST partners VCT and Vector.

Low-cost SCI protocol
Up to 20Kbits/s data transfer rate
Low-cost single wire transceiver
Bus system designed for automotive applications

Applications
Mainly used in car body applications:
- Climate Control
- Mirrors
- Door Modules
- Seats
- Smart Switches
- Low-cost Sensors
