STMicroelectronics
moved up to become the 6th largest semiconductor
company in the world according to the Gartner-Dataquest
final 2000 rankings and various independent market
research data and company reports.
Record
sales were posted across all product lines, all
major application sectors and all across the globe.
Net revenues totaled $7,813.2 million with a gross
profit of $3,596.3 million.
In the geographic regions of Europe and Asia Pacific,
ST takes third position, and in 2000 the Company
marked an important milestone as it entered the
top ten rankings among semiconductor suppliers in
the United States. |

Timely
and significant manufacturing capacity came on line
in 2000: two world class 8-inch fabs opened in Agrate,
Italy, and Rousset, France; in Singapore, both a
new 6-inch plant and an assembly and test facility
were opened.
ST was well positioned to take advantage both of
the market upturn and of the exploding demand for
Flash memories and ST's Flash sales increased by
211%.
In the year 2000, ST's workforce grew to more than
43,000 people.
ST topped 14 global semiconductor enterprises with
the only AAA rating in eco-efficiency by Innovest
