LRi2K RFID chips chosen for asset management in Paris libraries

4 April 2008

The City of Paris has announced its adoption of RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology for Paris libraries, and this is based on our LRi2K long-range RFID chips for multi-purpose asset-tracking. The solution, to be implemented by 3M by 2012, will improve collection management and security as well as optimizing flow.

The new infrastructure requires as many as 5 million RFID labels, as well as the RFID systems and RFID automated customer self-service, to equip 42 libraries. The LRi2K chip perfectly matches the needs of the innovative library system, which, in accordance with the ISO standards and recommendations, opted for tables offering the largest memory capacity with a life span that matches book life spans.
