洗濯機(乾燥機内蔵型も含む)は、おそらく最も長い歴史を持つ生活家電であり、市販モデルの登場は1850年代半ばにまでさかのぼります。現代の洗濯機は、より少ない電力、水、洗剤でより効果的に洗浄をし、安全かつ静かに動作することが求められています。また、ホーム・オートメーションに向けて、コネクティビティやクラウド/モバイル・アプリを介した操作、複雑な機能でも簡単に利用できるようなインタフェースなどもますます必要とされています。

STは、STM32マイクロコントローラ、パワーMOSFET、IGBT、インテリジェント・パワー・モジュール(IPM)、トライアック、ダイオードや高電圧ゲート・ドライバなど、今日の洗濯機で使用される様々なモータ(3相ブラシレス・モータからユニバーサル・モータまで)向けの効率的なモータ制御ソリューションを設計するための幅広いデバイスを提供するとともに、さまざまなハードウェアとソフトウェアの評価・開発ツールを提供して設計をサポートしています。

さらに、STは、幅広い先進的なMEMSモーション・センサおよび環境センサや有線/無線通信ソリューションを提供しており、ネットワークに接続した効率的かつ使いやすい洗濯機の設計をサポートしています。
