3相誘導モータはブラシレス・モータです。ステータは銅巻線であり、ロータはアルミニウム製のかご形が一般的です。標準的な駆動構成では、3相ブリッジ(3つのハーフブリッジ)を変調して3つの正弦波電圧をステータに印加します。駆動部分は、通常、大電力アプリケーションで使用され、パワーMOSFETまたはIGBTと高電圧ゲート・ドライバ、または3つのハーフブリッジと関連ゲート駆動段を集積したパワー・モジュールで構成できます。インバータを制御するマイクロコントローラには、ベクトル制御またはスカラ(V/Hz)制御アルゴリズムが実装されています。
