ブラシ付きDCモータは、ロボット、バルブ、ヘルスケア機器などの産業アプリケーションや車載アプリケーションで広く使用されています。

一方向の回転のみが必要な場合は、PWMによるシングル・スイッチ・トポロジを使用することでモータに印加する電圧を変化させ、モータの速度を制御できます。
位置制御が要求される場合や双方向の回転が必要な場合(カー・ウィンドウなど)は、PWM制御によるフルHブリッジが使用されます。
低い電力レベルでは、STはゲート・ドライバ、パワー・トランジスタ、保護機能、電流検出、さらにはDC-DCコンバータを組み込むなど、機能集積を段階的に選択できる幅広い高集積モータ・ドライバを提供しています。大電力ニーズに対応するため、STのポートフォリオには、必要なHブリッジを実装するためのディスクリート型低耐圧パワーMOSFETやゲート・ドライバICも含まれます。
これらの駆動を実装するには、汎用8bitマイクロコントローラやコストを最適化した32bitマイクロコントローラを使用できます。
