In new electric vehicles, two different power sources, such as batteries and DC-DC converters, supply the vehicle loads. Consequently, two concurrent power rails are used for power distribution from the sources to the loads. These two systems are not fully isolated. Power Rail Switches (PRS) are bidirectional devices that connect loads to an alternative power rail or source if one fails. PRS performs control and management of the concurrent power rails connected to the Power Distribution Unit (PDU) and Zonal Control Unit (ZCU) systems.
