ヘッドアップ・ディスプレイ(HUD)は、自動車の速度、ナビゲーション情報、その他の警告などの重要な情報をドライバの視線上に直接表示することにより、わき見運転の危険の低減をサポートします。HUDは当初、軍事目的でジェット戦闘機に採用されましたが、現在では、車載HMI(ヒューマン・マシン・インタフェース)の中で非常に重要な役割を果たしています。

HUDは、情報をドライバの視野の中に表示します。計器やサブ・ディスプレイに目を落とす必要がないため、ドライバが道路から目を離すことがなくなります。フロントガラスのヘッドアップ・ディスプレイの場合、ドライバはボンネット上、約1.5~2mの距離に「浮遊する」仮想的なイメージを見ることができます。

STは、イメージ調整用に32bit制御ユニットでモニタしたプログラム可能なステッピング・モータ・ドライバによってHUDの設計に対応し、多機能でコスト効率に優れたソリューションを実現しています。EVAL-L99SM81Vボードが提供されています。この評価ボードでは、1つのバイポーラ・ステッピング・モータをマイクロステッピング・モードで駆動できます。
