アーク溶接は組み立て工程の1つで、電極と基材に大電流を流すことにより金属部品を溶融させて接合する溶接法です。DCまたはAC電流は、通常、ハーフブリッジ、フルブリッジ、ツートランジスタ・フォワードの各トポロジに基づく専用設計の高周波インバータ・スイッチング電源(SMPS)によって生成されます。

溶接用のSMPSの主な要件は、高効率と信頼性、および小型軽量の設計を可能にする電力密度です。

STは、各種のパワーMOSFETとダイオード(どちらもシリコンおよびシリコン・カーバイドに基づく高効率)、IGBT、ガルバニック絶縁型ゲート・ドライバ、高性能な32bitマイクロコントローラSTM32の提供により、より高効率かつ小型の設計をサポートしています。
