Electrostatic discharges (ESD) are one of the major root causes of product quality returns in electronic applications. During this one-hour webinar, you will learn how to make your electronic system more robust against destructive ESD by using ST’s ESD protection components.

Electronic systems have several entry points (connectors, antennas, buttons, etc.) which must be protected against ESD using a component which does not impact system signal or power integrity.

ST’s ESD protections feature high efficiency and protect integrated circuits against destruction or fragilization after an ESD surge. Thanks to the implementation of advanced, patented silicon technology and design structure, ST has become a worldwide leader in the protection market. ST's protection components can be found in electronic devices from major Tier1 OEMs and mass market customers worldwide, reaching a shipped volume of more than 6 billion units per year.

Aware that issues linked to EMC-immunity are typically very hard to tackle, and often solved after a long learning curve, ST’s engineers will share with you their experience, gained after supporting worldwide customers in the implementation of various types of applications (industrial, automotive, personal electronics, etc.).

During this webinar you will learn:

  • About the major root causes behind ESD and EMC standards
  • How to take advantage of ST’s ESD protections
  • Why it is important to integrate ESD protection components in your design, with real application examples
  • How to select the best protection for your use case

Agenda

  • The importance of protecting electronic systems against ESD - Why an external protection is required
  • The key parameters to consider to select the most suitable ESD protection
  • Application examples

There will be a live Q&A session at the end of the webinar where ST’s experienced engineers will be available to answer your questions.

Speaker

Vladimír JANOUŠEK is an Application Team Manager EMEA at STMicroelectronics. He started as application support engineer at ST in 2003. His career at ST led him to discover many different MCU and MPU applications with a focus on industrial and wireless connectivity (Ethernet PHYs, Ethernet in industrial buses, SubGHz, Bluetooth). Since 2008, Vladimir has focused on customer application support for new MEMS & Sensors products and on leading the application team specialized in standard analog products (Op Amps, comparators), power management applications (DC/DC, LDOs) and system protections against ESD.
Mathieu ROUVIERE , PhD, is an Application Engineer for protection and filter products at STMicroelectronics. He holds an engineering degree from ESEO in electronics as well as a Master’s degree in photonics from Angers University (France). His thesis at the Institute of Fundamental Electronics (University Paris-Sud) in 2005 led him to study silicon micro-photonics. He worked for 7 years on industrial R&D on RF technologies with technology transfers, developments, and industrializations. He has been a member of the protection and filter application laboratory for consumer, industrial and medical markets worldwide for 8 years. He is the co-author of 9 international publications, 13 international conferences and 7 European/USA/China patents (3 under publication).

Estelle ASTAR is a Product Marketing Engineer for Protection and Filter devices at STMicroelectronics Estelle holds a master’s degree in business (Tours, France). Shortly after joining ST, she created the marketing department of the Product Group for Protection and Filter products at ST in Tours. With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, and strong knowledge of the semiconductor market for various product lines (Thyristors and Triacs, Power Schottky & Power Rectifiers, Protection and Filters, IPD RF), Estelle is currently in charge of mass market customers worldwide for Protection and Filter products.

About ST's ESD protection products:

ST's portfolio of ESD protection devices includes a wide range of products which protect electronic boards against destructive electrical transient current.
Designed in collaboration with key ST customers, several of ST's protection devices outperform the IEC61000-4-2 standard for ESD robustness and feature the market's best clamping voltage. ST's ESD protections are housed in packages ranging from standard SOT to the industry’s tiniest SMD 01005 package.
